Announcements Monday November 21, 2022

Yesterday marked the Transgender Day of Remembrance. We began marking this day in 1999 in response to the brutal killing of Rita Hester, a Black Trans woman. On Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honour all Trans, Two-Spirit, and non-binary people who were victims of violence, hatred, and discrimination and who had their lives taken. Transphobia, trans misogyny, and all other forms of violence, including racism against Black, Indigenous, and racialized Trans people, have no place in Canada.

Attention Grade 12's: Grad Sweater Orders are due Tuesday November 22nd. Be sure to submit your order on the google form and pay using School Cash Online. Additional information can be found in your email and on the grad board outside of 215.

The BM Chess team headed to GCVI for the 3rd annual Gaels Chess Tournament on Friday. Many heated battles took place and the BM chess team suffered some losses early in the day. The Celtics battled back in the end game earning them a chance to place on the podium. Unfortunately, it was an upsetting loss in the semifinals as GCVI completed the tournament with one undefeated player. Special shout out goes to Tristen Dennison who finished the day with four wins and only one loss in his division bringing home 2nd place to Bishop Mac. Great Work Celtics!!

This weekend the junior girls' basketball team headed to Galt Collegiate to compete in the CWOSSA championships. The ladies started off the tournament with a big 44-10 win against Grey Highlands. They then went on to win their second game 66-44 against Glenview Park, earning them a spot in the semi-finals on Saturday. The semi-final game started off close, that was until Faith "Buckets" Goodwin scored a 3 pointer which gave the girls' the momentum they needed to win the game 60 – 42, earning them a spot in the finals that night. The finals was a close and intense game until the very end. The girls' were the definition of teamwork; they made incredible passes, had strong defence, and never gave up. The Celtics came out on top winning the game 42 – 39 and earned the title of CWOSSA champions. Scoring for the Celtics this weekend were Talya Kridli, Sydney Richardson, Nikole Mija, Faith Goodwin, Amelia Andrews, Mckenna Petti, Valentina Garces-Roa, and Annika Best. A special shout-out goes to our grade 10 players, Talya Kridli, Sydney Richardson, and Nikole Mija for their leadership both on and off the court. The team should be proud of all they accomplished this season, way to go Celtics!
