School-Based Supports for Grief

At Bishop Macdonell, we offer a Grief and Bereavement group for students that have experienced a death of a relative or close friend. We create a safe, confidential space where students can heal through listening, talking or doing activities as they learn healthy ways to cope.
 
Students can also meet with our chaplain individually for support. Our current reality with COVID has left many students feeling anxious. Deacon Klein is available to recommend resources, offer guidance and always listen. Often students have an educator/coach with whom they are willing to speak. Many students are encouraged and uplifted by a few words from a caring staff member. Sometimes a listening, impartial and caring adult is what is needed.
 
Student may experience complicated grief. In these cases, with parental consent, we would involve our Social Worker. Sometimes outside resources will be recommended.
