Happy Monday Celtics. This month’s Umbrella Project theme is Realistic Optimism. Realistic Optimism doesn’t mean looking at the world and assuming everything is sunshine and lollipops. It does mean that we work to see the positive in things, that we believe that if we work hard and have the right supports in place we are likely to succeed or learn from obstacles. Realistic Optimism is a skill that we can practice and grow. Can you pause and think about something that went well for you recently?

Celtics, we are excited to announce a special presentation by the acclaimed author Lawrence Hill, celebrating and recognizing Black identity, diversity, and excellence. This event is a unique opportunity to engage with Mr. Hill’s inspiring work and insights. He will be speaking to all grade 10 and 11 students, with a focus on racial identity in Canada, and driven by student questions. The St James Black Youth Alliance is hosting the event at St John the Baptist Church, across from St. James from 12:30pm to 2pm on Tuesday, December 3rd. That is tomorrow 😊The bus will leave here at 12pm and return at 2:45pm. The cost is covered by the school.
We warmly invite all students who identify as racialized to join us for this enriching experience. Let’s come together to honour and learn from the stories and achievements that shape our diverse community.
Please see Ms. Verdone today in room 120 at lunch to discuss this opportunity and pickup a permission form.
