World Down Syndrome Day is on the 21st day of March every year. The 21st day of March was chosen to represent the triplication trisomy of the 21st chromosome that causes Down Syndrome.
It is a global awareness day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The goal is to help people better understand and support those with Down Syndrome. On #WorldDownSyndromeDay, we create a single global voice advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down Syndrome.
This is why on March 21st, we are asking the Bishop Macdonell community - staff, students and friends to wear #LotsOfSocks that are going to get noticed! They might be mismatched socks or your boldest and most colourful socks. When people ask you about your socks, you can say, "I'm wearing them to raise awareness about Down Syndrome."
