Bishop Macdonell Hosting a Provincial All-Candidates Meeting

Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School will be hosting an All Candidates meeting for the Provincial Election on Thursday, May 5.

Four local candidates will attend Bishop Macdonell CHS for a live event where they will have the opportunity to summarize their respective party platforms and respond to questions prepared by the students.

Peter Martin, Department Head of Canadian & World Studies, facilitated invitations to the Guelph candidates for the four major parties – Mike Schreiner, incumbent and leader of the Green part of Ontario, Peter McSherry, Conservative Party candidate for Guelph, Raechelle Devereaux, Liberal Party candidate for Guelph and James Parr, the New Democratic Party candidate for the Guelph riding.

Following accepted invitations, Martin shared that students from the International Baccalaureate program will facilitate the event, working as MC's, moderators, and other speaking roles.

“Catholic Education Week was a great opportunity to have this kind of important Civics education event and a chance for our students to make a connection to those who wish to represent them in public office,” said Martin.

In a similar format to the All Candidates meeting for the federal campaign last Fall, students from all Wellington Catholic District School Board and Upper Grand District School Board schools will be able to tune in to the virtual event live.

The All Candidates meeting will be held Thursday, May 5 from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School.
